San Antonio, Texas – March 22, 2017 - In June of 2017, Hallmark University will offer college experience at no cost to San Antonio high school students through the University’s annual summer intensives. These summer intensives are aimed at helping high school students explore various collegiate fields of study, the opportunities they present, and lessening the level of uncertainty experienced by many students as they approach high school graduation. In addition, these intensives will provide the opportunity for some students to obtain professional certifications free of charge.
Hallmark’s summer intensives are divided into four categories: business, cybersecurity, healthcare, and aviation. Students of each category will gain valuable experience, knowledge, and a glimpse into the realities of college and the professional work environment. After completion, students should have a better understanding of the industries that interest them most and the steps they’ll need to take in order to gain access and excel within those industries.
Students choosing to attend the aviation intensive will study inside of Hallmark’s airport hangar and have the opportunity to operate aircraft engines, taxi an aircraft, and train on Air Traffic Control simulators at the San Antonio Airport Tower. Students of the business intensive will learn the various aspects of business by dissecting each part of a professional business plan. Afterward, they will be given an opportunity to exhibit their knowledge and improve their communication skills by pitching that business plan to a panel of experts within a boardroom setting. Students attending the healthcare intensive will learn about visual acuity, vital signs, mobility devices, medical terminology, and body stems in an environment that replicates a functional hospital. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to become CPR certified. Lastly, cybersecurity intensive students will embark on a two-week session that covers the learning objectives necessary for obtaining an official CompTIA Security+ certification. These students will get to experience cybersecurity simulation exercises, and if test ready, will have the opportunity to take the CompTIA Security+ certification test free of charge. If passed, they will obtain a professional cybersecurity certification.
All San Antonio high school students are encouraged to apply. However, availability is limited. To be considered for admittance into any of the summer intensive programs, students must apply by May 19th at hallmarkuniversity.edu/summer .
